Assignment # 3: The Fountainhead
You're going to love this...

This assignment has 4 parts

1. Read The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand

2. Respond to one of the following prompts in a 800-1600 word essay:

A. After the Stoddard trial, Dominique Francon marries Peter Keating. Given her love for the integrity of Howard Roark's buildings and person, why does she do this? What is she seeking from the marriage? How does her action of marrying Peter relate to her deeper convictions and conflicts?

B. In dynamiting Cortlandt Homes, Howard Roark breaks the law. What is his moral and philosophical argument for the rectitude of his action?

C. Choose the scene in The Fountainhead that is most meaningful to you. Analyze that scene in terms of the wider themes in the book.

3. Post your essay on your blog

4. Go to http://essaycontest.aynrandnovels.com/TheFountainhead.aspx?theme=blue and submit your essay online.
* Make sure you include:
your name and address;
your e-mail address (if available);
the name and address of your school;
topic selected (#1, 2 or 3 from list above);
your current grade level; and
(optional) the name of the teacher who assigned the essay, if you are completing it for classroom credit.

Assignment # 2: The Scarlet Letter

This assignment has four parts

1) Read The Scarlet Letter

2) Write a short essay (3 paragraphs)analyzing the use of symbols in the text.

3) Review the responses of 3 of your classmates (you can get to their blogs by clicking on the link on my blog)

4) Comment on your classmates' responses. Be honest, courteous, and, as always, classroom appropriate!
** If you notice that someone already has 3 reviews on thier blog, move on to someone else.

Assignment #1 - The Beginning

Let the blogs begin...

Assignment #1 has six components:

1)Set up your blog. Make sure that only your pseudonym is displayed in order to keep your anonymity, and remember, NO PICTURES OF YOU OR ANYONE ELSE AT OUR SCHOOL!

2) Go to Google, then do a search for "Google Gadgets." Search around for different widgets and add two to your blog.

3) Create a "Links list" widget and add at least three links to pages that you find helpful, interesting, or cool! My blog must be one of the links that you add, just for convienence sake.
*Remember that everything added to your blog MUST be classroom appropriate.

4) Research your author/pseudonym. Write 5 interesting facts about your author/pseudonym in your blog.
*FYI - When and where your author was born are NOT interesting facts...

5) Embed a picture of your author/pseudonym somewhere on your blog.

6) Customize your blog to fit the personality of both you and your author/pseudonym.
